LOST HANDLERS

This page is dedicated to the memory of friends and colleagues .. ADU NI handlers who have
died since leaving the Unit.  They, too, will not be forgotten.

Michael Patrick ENNIS ‘Mick’ 1955 to 2009: It is with the deepest sadness that I have to inform all former members of the Army Dog Unit Northern Ireland of the sudden and tragic death of ‘Mick’ on 25th July 2009.  Mick joined 3 Para in 1975, and then moved to the UDR in 1978 prior to the amalgamation in 1990 to 7 Royal Irish. He joined 39 Inf Brigade specialist dog section as a VS handler and was later to complete both Tracker and AES courses.  He already had his plumbing trade which he returned to when in civilian life.  In 39 Bde he was a very active member of the team and would return from navy ‘ops’ carrying a selection of dogs leads, that he had 'acquired' compliments of the ships stores.  I have some very fond memories of ‘Mick Ennis’, and take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and the turmoil’s of the last few years are now also at an end.  REST IN PEACE ..  Eddie 52

He was a lovely person, always willing to help, especially with the dogs training, and a great guitarist in a band that played around the N. Ireland while we served together.  I'm sure there are lots of fellow handlers that will remember him, and thoughts go to his family .... Andy Meen

RICHARD THORNE (RPC).  Also known as Ricky, Dick or Dicky, he was a dog handler in Lisburn, Northern Ireland in the early 70's and his dog was called Davey.

Since his sudden death in November 2005, his daughter Debbie (Chadwick) has been trying to find his old friends and would very much like any old colleagues to contact her at debchad61@hotmail.com.
